Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility is the special guest of the III European Labour Mobility Congress. The presence of the Commissioner at the event is regarded as a big success of Congress organizers. For the entrepreneurs it is a unique opportunity to meet the person responsible for all the decisions of the European Commission concerning the posting of workers by 2018.
Marianne Thyssen entered the European Parliament in 1991 and was re-elected 5 times. During her almost 23 years as a member of European Parliament, she mainly focused on economic and social issues. Between 2008 and 2010 she was also the President of her party, CD&V (the Flemish Christian Democrats in Belgium). Since November 2014, she is the European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility.
In her keynote address to be held on the first day of the Congress the Commissioner will present EU policies in the areas that are crucial for the service companies from the transport, construction, care industries and others.
The most pressing issues for the entrepreneurs include, among others:
- questions being raised in Brussels about the possibility of revision of Directive 96/71/EC on the posting of workers, a matter of great importance to trade unions and European socialists;
- European Commission’s position in relation to the application of German regulations on minimum wage to international transport drivers which was having been previously applicable only to posted workers.
The Commissioner announced that her visit in Krakow will be an opportunity to hold working meetings with the representatives of the Polish government. The visit of such an important person in Poland is a milestone in the promotion of Polish services in Europe.
The list of all the Congress speakers is available here. Please follow this website on a regular basis as the information is being updated daily.
